Live Painting

I have had the opportunity to paint live at numerous events, including traveling to Florida three times to paint. Painting live is something I absolutely love. To be able to create a picture from beginning to end in front of people is a rush, and I believe helps others appreciate art even more.

It is a performance that I prepare for much like sports. I do my research, create my composition, know exactly what I will paint, visualize painting before I actually do, then go out and perform. Being a former athlete I think helped train me to be able to do this. Below are some of the events I painted live at. Most, I have around 4 hours to complete the painting beginning to end.

Live Painting at Nebraska's Memorial Stadium

On 9-20-24 I was honored to paint live at the 400th Sellout of Memorial Stadium, starting at 7pm and finishing when the game was over. To date, this was the most challenging live painting I’ve done.

Live Painting for Farm Credit Services of America's Executive Summit

For this live painting, I was challenged with the largest live painting I’ve ever done, a triptych spanning 6’ x 12’ wide. My Dad then created walnut islands to go on top before it was hung at its permanent place at Farm Credit’s new facility.

Live Painting at Teammates Mentoring

This Live Painting is a little extra special, as it was the reason I decided to become a licensed Husker artist. Tom Osborne was in attendance and actually watched me paint. When I shook his hand and told him I was a mentor, his eyes lit up and he took both of my hands in his and thanked me for doing that. It was a moment I will never forget.

Live Painting for Cox Communications Holiday Party at Joslyn Art Museum

For this live painting experience, I was asked to complete two paintings over 4 hours. I was tasked to paint two separate scenes for their Holiday party at Joslyn Art Museum. These were fun to capture the energy and movement of that night.

Live Painting for Heartfelt Incorporated

What an honor to paint at this event for families who have lost children. To say I’ve never painted a more meaningful painting is an understatement. Jill and Gerald were at the event and a part of the idea. And Jan Berringer gave her blessing to use Brook in the painting with Sam.

Live Painting for Wedding at the Scoular Ballroom

What a beautiful environment to paint a wedding live. One of the more relaxed live paintings I’ve ever done. I enjoyed the music and talking with people as they came up and watched me paint.

Live Painting for Farm Credit Services of America's Board of Directors Holiday Party at Joslyn Art Museum

This was a fun painting for the Board of Directors Christmas party at Joslyn Art Museum. I had about 3-4 hours to complete the painting. The final piece hangs at their facility.

Live Painting for Teammates Mentoring Gala

What a fun Gala, Tom Osborne interviewing Paton Manning and Warren Buffet. They were celebrating the 97' Championship team, so I did this painting of them. Many of the players were there and signed the picture, including Tom Osborne.

Live Painting for Rotary District 6960 in Florida

Flown down to Southwest Florida to paint Live at their Rotary District Conference. Proceeds benefited JCMF with Josh the Otter, which is a foundation I am a part of. What a fun event to be a part of.

Live Painting for Cattlemen's Ball of NE 2019

This Ball was an emotional one. Coming off 2018 and all the devastating flooding that happened in Nebraska with ranches, farms and homes destroyed, the only thing that made sense to paint was the lines of trucks from other states bringing hay and other supplies to help those in need. Watching this on the news, made me tear up and I knew it needed to be captured.

Live Painting in Hastings, NE to benefit education scholarships and childhood cancer research.

Painted in the beautiful old building downtown Hastings, The Lark. This was a fun night full of jazz music, art and food. I didn't think I'd have enough time to finish, but I did! Enjoyed painting this one.

Live Painting for Cattlemen's Ball of NE 2021

Referencing a photo from a gentleman off Nebraska Through the Lens, I added in the little boy to make it a special Father/Son painting. To me, this represents the peacefulness out in the country with your animals and ones you love. I had 9-5pm, then it was auctioned on stage for Cancer Research.

Live Painting in Englewood, Florida for Josh the Otter

This was the first of three Live Paintings I did for the Rotary Club of Englewood on behalf of Josh the Otter. I had about 3 hours to complete this painting. Great Benefit.

Live Painting for Nebraska Bar Association's Barrister's Ball

I was asked to do this Live Painting for the Nebraska Bar Association. Scott Frost had just been hired at the time, so the committee opted to have me do a painting of Tom and Scott.

This was the first Cattlemen's Ball I ever painted Live at and really kicked off Live Painting for me. I started around 9am and finished around 5pm, with the original being auctioned off for cancer Research.

Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy

HETRA is an organization I have been volunteering at for a while now. They work with special needs and veterans. This is the painting I did Live for their fundraiser event recently.

Live Painting for St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Elkhorn

For this event, I started painting in the cocktail room and finished near the stage while the event was going on. The sunset was fun to paint and seemed to flow pretty effortlessly.

An organization I’ve been a part of since 2008, this was my first Live Painting I’ve ever done. Crazy to think how many I’ve done since then.

Live Painting for Rotary Club of Englewood Florida

Another wonderful event down in Florida I was honored to be a part of. Started painting during cocktail hour and finished near the stage while the event was going on. Auctioned off to promote water safety for children through Josh the Otter.

Live Painting for Cattlemen's Ball of Nebraska 2017

This idea was chosen to honor the 1947 Omaha Stockyards. As I painted this throughout the day, it was fun for people to come up and tell stories about being there with their grandparents. It brought back a lot of neat memories for people, which is my favorite part of art.

Live Painting for Cattlemen's Ball of Nebraska 2018

This Cattlemen's Ball was hosted in Hebron, NE. Their theme of the event was 'Cattle Drive'. In photoshop I came up with this composition to represent that from multiple photos. Auctioned off for cancer research.

Live Painting for West Omaha Chamber

This painting was done for the West Omaha Chamber. Starting with a blank canvas, I had just under 4 hours to finish this Omaha cityscape. The buildings were a bit of a challenge, but ended up coming together.
